Singapore General Hospital

Singapore General Hospital (SGH), founded in 1821 as a wooden shed for British troops, is Singapore’s oldest and largest acute tertiary hospital. Relocated multiple times, it settled at Outram Road in 1882 and was officially named SGH in 1926.

Specializing in trauma care, oncology, organ transplants, and cardiovascular surgery, SGH anchors Singapore’s public healthcare as the flagship hospital of SingHealth. National University Hospital

National University Hospital (NUH), established in 1985 as Singapore’s leading university hospital, traces its academic roots to the 1905 founding of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, which it serves as the principal teaching institution. Specializing in organ transplantation (including Singapore’s only paediatric kidney and liver programme), cancer care, cardiovascular surgery, and digestive health, NUH anchors the National University Health System (NUHS) with 1,289 beds and handles over 1 million patients annually.

It houses national specialty centres such as the National University Cancer Institute Singapore (NCIS) and National University Heart Centre Singapore (NUHCS), pioneering innovations like AI-driven diagnostics and robotic-assisted surgeries. Tan Tock Seng Hospital

Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), founded in 1844 by philanthropist Tan Tock Seng, is Singapore’s second-largest acute care hospital. Originally the Chinese Pauper Hospital, it was the nation’s first community-funded medical facility. Specializing in infectious diseases (home to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases), trauma care, and geriatrics, TTSH leads epidemic responses (SARS, COVID-19). Part of the National Healthcare Group, its HealthCity Novena campus combines 1,700 beds with advanced research and innovation. Rooted in serving all communities, TTSH merges historical legacy with cutting-edge care for rehabilitation, post-surgery recovery, and chronic conditions. 

Changi General Hospital

Changi General Hospital (CGH), established in 1998 through the merger of Toa Payoh Hospital and Changi Hospital, traces its origins to 1935 as the British Royal Air Force Hospital in Changi . Serving eastern Singapore, it is an academic medical institution specializing in aviation medicine (via Singapore’s first dedicated centre for pilots and crew), sports medicine, wound healing, and geriatric care.

CGH pioneered innovations like AI-driven diagnostics (e.g., CAPE for pneumonia severity prediction) and robotics in rehabilitation. It houses the Shimadzu-CGH Clinomics Centre for personalized hypertension treatment and partners with Changi Airport Group on travel wellness initiatives. Recognized globally as a "World’s Best Smart Hospital" by Newsweek, CGH integrates advanced research with community-focused programmes like GPFirst and CareLine for seniors 

SingHealth Polyclinics

SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP), part of Singapore’s largest healthcare group SingHealth, operates nine polyclinics providing affordable, community-focused primary care. Established in 1963 with Queenstown Polyclinic (Singapore’s first combined outpatient and maternal-child clinic), SHP expanded under SingHealth in 2000 to address aging populations and chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Specializing in preventive care, chronic disease management, and maternal-child wellness (via initiatives like the Integrated Maternal and Child Wellness Hub), SHP integrates technology like TeleCare (remote BP monitoring) and Video Consultation for chronic conditions. Its Primary Care Research Institute (PCRI) partners with AstraZeneca and GPs to advance preventive health and upskill clinicians

KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital

KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), founded in 1858 as Singapore’s fifth general hospital, became a maternity-focused institution in 1924 and now specializes in obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, and neonatology. Renowned for delivering over 1.6 million babies, it holds a Guinness World Record for 39,835 births in 1966, a title retained for a decade.

As Singapore’s largest tertiary referral center for high-risk maternal and pediatric care, KKH integrates advanced medical research, innovation (e.g., telemedicine, virtual wards), and community health initiatives. It is an Academic Medical Centre, training students from Duke-NUS, Yong Loo Lin, and Lee Kong Chian medical schools
